New Home

July 11, 2008

We were busy moving into our new home the month of June. As if having a baby weren't enough of a life changing event we decided to pack on another stressful change. We are enjoying getting settled and have started to set the baby's room up. Our new neighbors have been very welcoming as they have all taken notice of the new pregnant lady on the block!

Here is another belly shot around 28 weeks in front of the carob tree at our new house!

We had another growth scan to make sure baby Uber is progressing nicely. He is measuring in the 60th percentile which I was assured was perfectly normal. I'm always worried about these things, but apparently the baby isn't considered too big until they measure in the 90th percentile.

Here are a couple of shots from our ultrasound.

The first here is to reassure us he is still a baby boy!

Birthday Surprise for Mom (to-be)!

May 28th, 2008
I received a wonderful birthday surprise visit from my sister Carolyn! She came just in time to help us with our initial move into the new house (bad timing on her part!). It was fun getting a chance to show her our new place and probably our only chance to hang out before the baby comes and she starts graduate school.
I could not have asked for a better birthday gift!

Baby Moves

May 16th, 2008

Another belly shot around 20 weeks confirms that our little guy is indeed growing bigger and bigger! And after alot of wondering what was going on in there, I can finally say with certainty that I have felt him move! It's pretty amazing to feel this tiny being inside you moving around on his own. I hope his kicks get strong enough for Scott to feel him soon too!

Our ultrasound at 22 weeks was primarily to determine if there were any abnormalities with our little guy's heart development. This is a common concern in diabetic mommies. After a full body scan it was determined that his heart was healthy and he is measuring around 1lb!

So far everything has been going amazingly well. My A1c measured 5.7 (the lowest it has ever been for me!) and my weight gain has been right on target. Everything seems to indicate that this will be a relatively normal pregnancy. The doctors joked with me that I'm thier most boring 'high risk' patient, which is just the way I like it!

To add more life changing events on top of what we are already getting ready for, Scott and I are preparing for a move into another home in the Phoenix area. As I'm not much use for heavy lifting we've gotten alot of offers for help from friends which should make things go much more smoothly!

The Big Reveal

April 27th , 2008

After many attempts with various softwares we finally decided to use MeBeam so that we could broadcast multiple video streams at the same time for the big Baby Gender Reveal. The audio never quite worked with the video so we improvised and did a conference call over the phone line. We got it all set up with Scott and I and his parents in Phoenix, his sister in Denver, my sister in Scacramento and my sister and parents in Oregon. It was quite the production.

Once we were all ready to go we opened the previously marked box to reveal......

...that we are expecting a blue elephant! Obviously we would have been excited had it gone either way, but both of us had a feeling from the start that baby Uber was to be a boy!

Dad proudly displayed his son's goods for all the world to see.

And both parents couldn't be happier!

Oh Boy! A Boy! What have we gotten ourselves into!?!?! Our family loved that they were a part of this special day and we really enjoyed sharing it with them.

The Big Secret

April 22nd, 2008

Our 16 week appoinment showed something that looked like a real baby in there! They did a full anatomy scan to make sure everything is developing correctly. It was really exciting to see the baby's heart, kidneys, spine and cerebral cortex. The technology they use is absolutely fascinating and continues to amaze me.

Though the thing I find most incredible is the fact that I have this tiny little person inside of me with so much of his/her personality already decided. I feel honored to be the one responsible for taking care of our baby during these 9 months and with each day I become more and more excited about being a mommy.

At our appointment the ultrasound technician played along nicely with my little game I've decided to set up. If she could determine the gender of our baby from the images, I asked her to mark one of two boxes I brought with us with a sticker. Each box contained a stuffed elephant; a blue elephant in one box, and a pink elephant in the other box. After the appoinment she returned the boxes to us, and one was clearly marked. Now we wait until next Sunday to find out what little Uber is with our family members either by our side, or watching via the internet! Scott can barely take it, but he's promised me he'll hold out.

Starting to Show

March 11, 2008

Here is the belly at 12 weeks. The first trimester....yeah! We had a big BBQ with all our friends to make the announcment that we are expecting. Everyone seemed incredibly happy for us.

As a few of my regular work shirts were beginning to get tight I decided it would be best to let my employer know why I suddenly had so many doctor's appointments. They were really supportive and I am acutally joining two other women at work who are due within a month of me.

At our doctor's appoinment everything looked really good. Little 'Uber' as we have come to call him/her was super active. I can't feel any of the babys movements yet, but it is really fun to watch on the ultrasound as he/she sits up and pumps those little fists and legs!

Jumping Jellybeans

February 4, 2008

On the 4th of this month we made our first visit to the Phoenix Perinatal Associates office. Begin diabetic, this pregnancy will be considered high risk and thus will endure increased monitoring and many, many ultrasounds. Our first visit confirmed that we do indeed have our own little jellybean!

A healthy diet, moderate exercise and an increase in the number of times I check my blood sugar will help keep this pregnancy as normal as possible.

February 12, 2008

On the 12th of this month we made a second visit to the perinatologists office and were amazed by how much our little bean has grown in little over a week. You can already make out the little nubby beginnings of arms and the head!

I feel so fortunate as I haven't had any of the typical pregnancy symptoms. And no morning sickness means it is much easier to keep food down and my blood sugars in control.
